Boys of Summer Series: Scratch Art

I'm always on the lookout for new ideas to do with the boys.  Since Hudson is done with preschool, we are officially on summer vacation!  I thought each week I would share a craft or fun activity that would be great for the boys in your life (fine for girls too). If you have any ideas to share, let me know!

This is a craft I use to do with children when I worked for a daycare. We normally bought the already made scratch art, but it very easy to make your own! I'm sure you have seen this before.

Supplies:
-a piece of white construction paper or card stock
-crayons
-black paint
-sponge brush
-toothpick, penny, end of a small paintbrush or whatever you want to use to scratch paint off

Directions:
1. Have your child color the entire paper pressing hard.  (you might have to help fill the entire page)

2. Paint the entire colored paper with your paint.  I did 2 coats. *If they help you with the paint, make sure to smooth it out when they are done!

3. Let the paint completely dry.
4. Let your child scratch off the paint with the end of a paintbrush. You should end up with a pretty cool looking craft!  *older kids can make shapes or scratch out their name!

If your little guy makes this, please leave me a link to your blog post in this comment section!  I would love to see it.

Did you enjoy this craft?  If you did, will you please give us a little vote!  :)
